About Gujarat Flying Club

The Gujarat Flying Club (GFC) is one of India’s oldest and most trusted Aviation Training Academy, established in 1958 and operating for over 65 years. GFC is a DGCA Approved Flying School currently operating from two strategic bases, Vadodara and Amreli in Gujarat. Over the decades, GFC has trained hundreds of successful commercial pilots and flight instructors, making it one of the most experienced Pilot Training Institutes in India.

GFC operates from two bases Vadodara, which is a controlled airspace environment, and Amreli, which is an uncontrolled airspace environment. Ground school training is available at both bases. Having dual bases in Gujarat gives GFC students practical exposure to both controlled and uncontrolled airspace operations, which is a significant advantage in real-world pilot training.

Yes, the Gujarat Flying Club is a fully DGCA Approved Flying School. Our current approval number is 13/2016, valid until 06 April 2028. DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) approval is the mandatory regulatory clearance required for any Flying School in India to offer pilot training programs legally. All courses offered by GFC — CPL, AFI/FI, ME-IR, Foreign Licence Conversion, and Licence Renewal are conducted under DGCA-approved guidelines.

GFC offers a comprehensive range of aviation training programs including the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL IR-ME), Assistant Flight Instructor (AFI) and Flight Instructor (FI) courses, Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (ME-IR), Foreign Pilot Licence Conversion, and Pilot Licence Renewal. Whether you are a fresh aspirant from Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat, or anywhere in Gujarat, GFC has a structured pathway to build your aviation career.

GFC currently operates a fleet of 5 single-engine aircraft and 1 multi-engine aircraft. All aircraft are maintained through GFC’s in-house maintenance facilities at both the Vadodara and Amreli bases under CAR 145 MRO approval, ensuring the highest standards of airworthiness and safety for all student pilots undergoing training.

Yes, GFC offers optional accommodation arrangements for students at both the Vadodara and Amreli training bases. This is especially helpful for students relocating from cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, North Gujarat, or other parts of India to pursue their pilot training, making the transition smoother and more comfortable.

Commercial Pilot Licence – CPL

A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is an official certification issued by DGCA that authorizes a pilot to fly aircraft for compensation or hire in other words; it is the licence required to work as a professional airline or charter pilot. The CPL course at GFC includes Instrument Rating (IR) and Multi-Engine (ME) endorsements, making it a complete qualification for entering the commercial aviation industry in India and globally.

GFC’s flagship CPL IR-ME course covers the complete pathway to becoming a certified Commercial Pilot. The programme includes ground school theory subjects, simulator training, single-engine flying hours, multi-engine flying, instrument flying under IMC conditions, and cross-country navigation flights all in compliance with DGCA requirements. The estimated duration to complete the minimum 200 flying hours required for a CPL is typically 12 to 15 months.

To enroll in the Commercial Pilot Training programme at Gujarat Flying Club, candidates must have completed 10+2 (Higher Secondary) with Physics and Mathematics as core subjects, be at least 17 years of age at the time of solo flight, hold a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate issued by a DGCA approved medical examiner, and clear the DGCA written examinations. Students from Vadodara, Gujarat, Ahmedabad, Surat, and other parts of India are welcome to apply.

As per DGCA regulations, a minimum of 200 total flying hours is required to be eligible for a Commercial Pilot Licence in India. This includes a minimum of 100 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time, 20 hours of instrument flying, 10 hours of cross-country navigation, and multi-engine flying hours. GFC’s structured CPL training programme is designed to help students accumulate these hours efficiently across its Vadodara and Amreli bases.

The minimum time required to complete 200 flying hours and finish CPL training at GFC is typically 12 to 15 months. This timeline can vary based on weather conditions, student availability, and individual learning pace. GFC’s dual-base setup across Vadodara and Amreli ensures maximum flying opportunities throughout the year, reducing unnecessary delays in training completion.

A CPL with Instrument Rating (IR) certifies a pilot to fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), meaning they can navigate and fly in low visibility and cloud conditions using only cockpit instruments. A Multi-Engine (ME) rating certifies the pilot to fly aircraft with more than one engine. Airlines require both IR and ME ratings in addition to a basic CPL. GFC’s CPL IR-ME course ensures students graduate with a complete, airline-ready qualification from a DGCA Approved Flying School in Gujarat.

Absolutely India is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world with over 1,000 new aircraft on order by Indian airlines. The demand for trained commercial pilots in India is expected to rise significantly over the next decade. For aspirants from Gujarat, whether from Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat, or North Gujarat pursuing Commercial Pilot Training at a DGCA Approved Flying School like GFC is one of the strongest career investments available today.

Flight Instructor Courses – AFI & FI

The Assistant Flight Instructor (AFI) course at GFC is designed for experienced CPL holders who wish to advance their aviation career by training the next generation of pilots. An AFI is certified to conduct dual instruction flights under the supervision of a qualified Flight Instructor. GFC’s AFI programme is DGCA approved and is an excellent stepping stone for pilots looking to build additional flying hours while earning as an instructor.

An Assistant Flight Instructor (AFI) can conduct flight instruction under the direct supervision of a certified Flight Instructor (FI), while a full Flight Instructor (FI) has the authority to conduct independent dual instruction flights and train student pilots without supervision. At GFC, both the AFI and FI certification programmes are available for eligible pilots, offering a structured career progression path within the aviation training sector.

To enroll in GFC’s Flight Instructor course, candidates must hold a valid Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with Instrument Rating, have a minimum required number of total flying hours as specified by DGCA, hold a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate, and pass the relevant DGCA examinations for instructor certification. GFC’s team can provide detailed eligibility guidance based on your current licence and flying hours.

Becoming a certified Flight Instructor at a DGCA Approved Flying School like GFC allows pilots to actively build flying hours while earning a professional income, a smart strategy for pilots who need to increase their total hours for airline recruitment. Teaching also deepens a pilot’s own understanding of aviation fundamentals. For pilots based in Gujarat, Vadodara, or Ahmedabad, GFC is one of the most accessible and reputed Pilot Training Academies in India to complete FI certification.

Multi-Engine Rating – ME-IR

The Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (ME-IR) course qualifies a pilot to fly multi-engine aircraft under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). This rating is a critical airline prerequisite since all commercial transport aircraft are multi-engine aircraft that operate under IFR in all weather conditions. GFC’s ME-IR course in Gujarat is one of the most structured Multi-Engine Rating courses available at a DGCA Approved Flying School in India.

To obtain a Multi-Engine Rating from DGCA, a candidate must hold a valid CPL or PPL, complete the required multi-engine flying hours on a DGCA approved multi-engine aircraft, pass DGCA’s written examinations for multi-engine operations, and complete a skills test with a DGCA authorized examiner. Gujarat Flying Club’s ME-IR course is fully aligned with current DGCA Multi-Engine Rating requirements and is conducted at GFC’s Vadodara base.

The duration of the Multi-Engine Rating course at Gujarat Flying Club is individual based, depending on the candidate’s current experience, availability, and the number of hours required. GFC’s experienced instructors work with each student personally to ensure efficient and thorough completion of all ME-IR requirements within the least possible time.

GFC operates a dedicated multi-engine training aircraft maintained in-house under CAR 145 MRO approval. This ensures that the aircraft used for Multi-Engine Instrument Rating training at our Vadodara base is always airworthy, well-maintained, and ready for training, reducing unnecessary delays for students enrolled in the ME-IR programme.

Yes, all Indian airlines require pilots to hold a Multi-Engine Rating in addition to a CPL and Instrument Rating before being eligible for recruitment. Without a multi-engine endorsement, a CPL holder cannot be considered for commercial airline operations. Completing a Multi-Engine Rating Course at a DGCA Approved Flying School like Gujarat Flying Club is therefore an essential step in an aviation career, not optional.

Foreign Licence Conversion

Foreign Pilot Licence Conversion is the process by which a pilot who holds a valid commercial pilot licence issued by a foreign aviation authority converts that licence to a valid Indian DGCA licence. This is required for Indian nationals who have completed their pilot training abroad and wish to fly commercially in India, as well as foreign nationals who wish to operate aircraft registered in India.

Yes, GFC offers a structured Foreign Pilot Licence Conversion programme for pilots holding licences from international aviation authorities such as the FAA (USA), EASA (Europe), CAAB (Bangladesh), CAA (UK), and other ICAO member states. Our Pilot Licence Conversion programme at Vadodara is designed to efficiently guide candidates through the DGCA conversion requirements with the support of experienced instructors.

The Foreign Licence Conversion process typically involves submitting your foreign licence credentials to DGCA for evaluation, clearing DGCA’s written theory examinations in the relevant subjects, completing any additional flying hours required by DGCA in India, and passing a skills test conducted by a DGCA-authorized examiner. Gujarat Flying Club’s team will guide you through each step of this process at our Vadodara base.

The timeline for Foreign Licence Conversion is individual-based and depends on the country of original licence, the number of DGCA exams required, and any additional flying hours that may be needed. GFC provides a personalized assessment for each candidate upon initial inquiry, so you have a clear picture of the timeline and requirements before you begin the conversion process.

Yes, GFC welcomes candidates from across Gujarat including Ahmedabad, Surat, North Gujarat, and Vadodara as well as from other states in India for the Foreign Licence Conversion programme. Our Vadodara base is well-connected, and our team is available to provide guidance and support throughout the conversion process regardless of where the candidate is currently based.

Licence Renewal

Pilot Licence Renewal is the process of revalidating an expired or lapsed DGCA pilot licence so that the holder can legally resume flying operations. A pilot licence renewal is required when a pilot has not maintained the minimum recent flying experience or when the licence has passed its validity period. Gujarat Flying Club’s streamlined Pilot Licence Renewal programme helps pilots across India quickly return to active flying status in compliance with DGCA regulations.
